The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) is scheduled to begin a roadway project in August 2024, along State Road (SR) 5/US 1/Overseas Highway from Jewfish Creek Bridge Mile Marker (MM) 108.4 to the Miami-Dade County Line (MM 112.8) in Monroe County.
WORK TO BE PERFORMED
- Repaving and restriping the roadway
- Upgrading and installing new guardrail
- Upgrading signage and pavement markings
- Reconfiguring right turn lanes at three locations to accommodate bicyclists
- Reconstructing sections of Overseas Highway travel lanes
ROAD CLOSURE INFORMATION
Travel lanes can be closed during the following hours:
- 8 p.m. to 6 a.m., Sunday through Thursday nights
DETOUR INFORMATION
When road closures are implemented, Overseas Highway traffic may be detoured on to Card Sound Road. Specific detour information will be provided before any corresponding activities are scheduled.
MAINTENANCE OF TRAFFIC
- To reconstruct the northbound travel lane, the southbound roadway will be temporarily widened and both northbound and southbound traffic will be shifted onto the southbound roadway.
- Once implemented this traffic pattern will remain in place until the northbound work is complete.
- To reconstruct the southbound travel lanes, nightly southbound road closures will be implemented and traffic will be detoured on to Card Sound Road.
